Israel’s Knesset passed the first part of a bill to limit the power of the Supreme Court. It still has to go through two more votes. It is a battle between the secularists and the religious Jews led by Bibi Netanyahu. Biden has been highly critical of the Netanyahu contingent and has tried to influence the people.
Hundreds of thousands of protesters believe Israel could become a theocracy.
The government says the reforms serve to strengthen democracy, arguing the Supreme Court has accrued too much power over politics in recent decades.
Deepening the crisis, thousands of reservists, including pilots in the air force crucial to Israel’s offensive and defensive capabilities, have vowed not to volunteer for service. Such unprecedented dissent has caused alarm over the potential impact on Israel’s military readiness. The bill limits the ability of the Court to interfere in government decisions.
The protesters feel their freedoms are being taken away, but the ruling government believes the power of the Court to interfere in government decisions needs to be turned back.
On Monday, Israel’s president warned political leaders that the country was “in a state of national emergency.”

The sad part of all this is the date. Tomorrow is the eve of Tisha B’Av when many disasters befell the Jewish Nation, most notably the Churban. Rabbis have taught the cause was Sinat Chanim, baseless hatred. And so, we are here again.

Clearly you have no idea of the Israeli judicial system. Many of the laws are carryovers from the days of British occupation, such as administrative detentions. The “reasonable doctrine” is the least of changes that need to be instituted.
One reform that is desperately needed is changing how new justices are selected. At present the court themselves decide on any new justices. The reason demonstrations are divided between religious and secular is because of the hostility towards the religious. Why in the damn hell is the court involved in Kashrut certifications. Kashrut is a Torah requirement and the Supreme Court is Not a Torah court, and lacks the knowledge and training to administer such certifications. It should be the sole purview of the Rabbinic Council.
I suspect secular groups are worried the perversion pride parades in Jerusalem may be in jeopardy. It’s these “international rules based order” policies that have deepened the divide between the groups.
If the Supreme court in the USA was an unelected Euro-trash collective overruling laws the elected Gov. wanted to implement….would you vote for that? A Fascist would, and the dumbasses of this enlightened new age.
Dude….think! The Gov is considering a Constitution etc. to limit the SC ability to control everything despite the wishes of the majority….these people have been lied to as have yours.
