Sen. Joe Manchin Might Become an Independent

Sen. Joe Manchin said Thursday he is “thinking seriously” about leaving the Democratic Party and registering as an independent. He wants to get re-elected and is pulling out all the stops. He knew what he was doing when he co-sponsored the Inflation Reduction Act, raising inflation and killing fossil fuels.

“I’m thinking seriously. For me, I have to have peace of mind, basically. The brand has become so bad. The ‘D’ brand and ‘R’ brand,” Manchin (D-WV) told Mountain State radio host Hoppy Kercheval. “You’ve heard me say a million times; I am not a Washington Democrat.”

Manchin, 75, has battled with President Biden in recent months over energy policy, accusing his administration of “ignoring” provisions to expand domestic fossil fuels in the Inflation Reduction Act — which he co-sponsored and helped pass.

The senator also threatened to block nominees for the Environmental Protection Agency to protest Biden’s “radical climate agenda” following a proposal to drastically cut emissions that he said would imperil the US electric grid.

He’s right, but he already showed his true colors when he passed Biden’s agenda. If he goes Independent, he’ll still vote for Biden’s agenda. He’s a leftist Democrat, just not a communist.

He’s desperate to turn the tide of his unpopularity. He’s been begging Chuck Schumer to flood the state with ads. He trails GOP Gov. Jim Justice.

Manchin’s a fraud. He runs like a Republican and then does Schumer’s bidding once in office.

According to the Morning Consult Poll, he is among the most unpopular Senators. Only Mitch McConnell fares worse.

A poll released on Monday morning shows that Manchin’s approval rating among West Virginian’s registers is at 39 percent, while 55 percent disapprove. His net rating of -16 points is second-worst only to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who has a net rating of -29.

  1. He’s been a fake, phony, and fraud for years. Must be threatened by voters possibly waking up to his “I’m a moderate scam.” Show him the door.

  2. Manchin has been going along with most any far left legislation, then plays his “I was betrayed” game, and now resorts to gossip on the radio. I think it is a show.

It is an election tactic. He would still vote with the dems. The RINOs want Manchin to win, instead of his conservative likely republican opponent.

The other senator in WV is a republican uniparty member, not a conservative. I think the voters in WV are ignorant.

Notice that 2 of 3 of Mitch’s closest insiders (Barrasso, Thune) are very popular in their very conservative states.

  3. Senators affect everyone in every state. This poll for each Senator is a poll within their state. Which means this poll is not accurate in a national sense. Hirono and Schat are so far left they can’t make a right turn without breaking their nose. I would bet in a national poll with equal demographics the Republican Senators over all would do better than the Democrat Senators except for Collins, Romney, McCarthy, McConnell, Murkowski and Graham. The crazy numbers are

Romney (R-UT): 50/41 (+9), are Utah voters paying attention?

Schumer (D-NY): 54/35 (+19) Do you think Republicans even participate in a poll in NY? Do Rs avoid it? OR was the poll only done in NYC?

    Warren (D-MA): 52/38 (+14) OMG

Murkowski (R-AK): 50/39 (+11) Super RINO but popular.

Cornyn (R-TX): 43/35 (+8) Useful idiots in Texas?

Feinstein (D-CA): 44/40 (+4) This maybe good news!

    Fetterman (D-PA): 44/43 (+1)?????

Cruz (R-TX): 48/43 (+5) Overall Texans are not happy with Cruz.

Just some observations. Actually the polls in each state maybe troubling as to the number of Communist Senators that have a favorable approval.

  4. This clown always pulls this crap. It means he wants something special from the White House. Nothing more than extortion. He’s staying put right where he is.

    • This analysis makes scary sense.
If he voted with the Republicans as an Independent he could be a hero, but at age 75 it would be hard to vote for him.
